Stock cars are shaped like cars on the road, but are much different. They have powerful engines, just one seat for the driver, and are made stronger in case they roll over or crash. Stock cars usually race on oval tracks that are made of clay dirt, or asphalt. The small tracks are just a quarter of a mile around, while others might be a half mile or mile. The really long tracks where stock cars run are called “Super Speedways”, and may be up to two and a half miles around.
The most famous stock car race is the Daytona 500, held in Daytona, Florida.
